Viewpoint at Burg Stein am Rhein church
Approx. in AD 550 a wooden church was built here when there was no settlement on the northern bank of the Rhine.
Parts of today's church (front wall) go back to the year 799. The choir room dates from the 13th century.
The name Burg comes from the Roman fort, which has been here in Stein am Rhein "Vor der Brugg" since 293 AD. has stood. The construction of the fort replaced the Roman village on the site of today's Untereschenz. By the way, there is also a bunker there.
