MOTHER OF ALL ARTIFICIAL CANOEING COURSES
Behind the waterworks at Hochablass, a canal was built to keep the drifting ice away from the city with its many water wheels and turbines: it has been used for canoeing since 1945. For the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, the historic ice canal was converted into the world's first artificial whitewater canoeing course. To this day, it is a model for the design of new slalom courses. The curved course and the natural surroundings influence the design of the entire facility. It is a frequent and popular venue for international competitions. The Federal Performance Center for Canoe Slalom and Whitewater is also located here.
