If you want to immerse yourself in the era of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, the best thing to do is to plan a visit to Nauders Fortress. The five-storey square building is enthroned on the pass road above the Reschen and is reminiscent of days long gone when it served as a roadblock against troop invasions. Today you will find a fascinating military museum there.

The fortress is closed in winter.
The former fort, Finstermünz, was built between 1834 and 1840. It lies in a double curve and is therefore considered intangible. This bottleneck is known as the Finstermünzpass.
