Nauders Fortress

If you want to immerse yourself in the era of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, the best thing to do is to plan a visit to Nauders Fortress. The five-storey square building is enthroned on the pass road above the Reschen and is reminiscent of days long gone when it served as a roadblock against troop invasions. Today you will find a fascinating military museum there.

An old fortress in an impressive location, it can also be visited on certain days of the week. The challenging Kaiserschützenweg trail also starts here.

Guided tours are offered every Wednesday and Sunday at 3 p.m. in summer.
The fortress is closed in winter.

The former fort, Finstermünz, was built between 1834 and 1840. It lies in a double curve and is therefore considered intangible. This bottleneck is known as the Finstermünzpass.
