Gmunden Esplanade

In the venerable year of 1850, as the winter months settled over picturesque Gmunden, the grandiose construction of the esplanade began by filling in the sublime lake bed. This noble undertaking, completed by 1862, represented a milestone in the development of this esteemed community. In the following years, in 1890/91 and 1896/97, significant widenings were undertaken, giving the esplanade even more splendor and space.Since then, this exquisite lakeside promenade has been not only a place for strolling for noble guests, but also a popular meeting place for the local population. From the lofty heights of the esplanade, strollers enjoy the dazzling view of the shimmering lake, the majestic mountain ranges, and the magnificent Ort castles, which shine like pearls in the sunlight.
