    Hiking

Hooiruiters (or ruiters) are traditional, pyramid-shaped constructions of wooden poles and crossbeams used in the meadow to let freshly cut hay dry from the ground by sun and wind. It helps keep the hay dry in unfavorable weather and provides shelter for insects.

The hay is stacked in a 'hoop' (opper) on the ruiter, keeping the inside hollow for ventilation. This prevents the hay from heating up when stored.
