According to legend, the castle Erfenstein was once connected with Spangenberg Castle (on the opposite side of the valley) by a leather bridge. de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sage_von_der_Ledernen_Br%C3%BCcke

Great ruin Erfenstein overlooking Erfenstein and the Spangenberg. The counts of Leiningen have built this castle, which consists of two castles, nothing is preserved from the upper rear castle. The climb is worthwhile, it gives the view of Spangenberg and the village of Erfenstein.

The castle Erfenstein was built in the middle of the 13th century by the counts of Leiningen. In 1470 the castle was destroyed. Erfenstein, a rectangular keep on a rock, has been preserved and renovated. The ruin belongs to the three - Burgenweg Erfenstein, Breitenstein and Sprangenberg.

The tower was probably rebuilt - otherwise you can see a few remains of the wall here and there on the mighty rocks.

From the rest bench you have a beautiful view of the valley, which is even kept free.
With a little luck or good timing, you might catch the cuckoo horse at the entrance to the village.

One of the oldest castles in the Palatinate Forest. From here a beautiful view of Erfenstein and the Burv Spangenberg opposite.

Small ruin that can be visited up to the castle. Pretty nice, but don't expect too much. Nice resting place
