The rock sea is below the Kalmit summit and is 1 kilometer long. It is made of sandstone. It is easy to reach from the hiking car parks Hüttenhohl and Houndstooth.

From the Hüttenhohl parking lot, it goes through the Felsenmeer to Kalmit with the Ludwigshafener Hütte to stop off.

Starting point here was the car park Hüttenhohl. From there follow the signs Felsenmeer, and you come through the rocky sea on the Kalmit with the Ludwigshafener hut to stop.

On the Kalmit-Vorberg Hüttenberg lies the Felsenmeer Hüttenberg. The area is littered with large boulders that come from the so-called Karlstalschichten of the Middle Buntsandstein. They arose during various cold periods, when the previously closed rock layer was broken up into individual rubble by frost blasting.
