In front of the municipal administration building stands this wooden sculpture of a beaver. The Old Swedish word "Bjur" means beaver; the first settler, Mårten Andersson from Nordmaling, used "Bjurholmen" to describe an island-like beaver lodge in the Öre River and adopted the name for his estate in the 1750s.
