The local history museum, inaugurated in 1953, is situated high above the Öre River, on the site where the first new buildings of Bjurholm were erected in 1752. The non-profit association that runs the museum was founded in 1944 on the initiative of primary school teacher Elfred Olofsson. The first building was moved to the historic site in 1947. Over the years, further buildings were relocated there, and the collections were expanded.
