Hiking

Evangelical Parish Church of St. Petri. The three-aisled vaulted brick basilica with a western tower in front was built towards the end of the 13th century. The completion of the building is expected to be around 1320. The original tower was destroyed by lightning in 1853. The subsequent restoration was carried out according to plans by the Hamburg-based architect J. Wimmel. The tower of the St. Petri Church is the landmark of the Hanseatic city of Buxtehude.

Whoever enters the church through the bridal house will first notice the brightness of this church. Probably begun as a hall church church was completed as a three-aisled Gothic brick basilica with west tower and five-sided apse. From an art historical point of view, the St. Peter's Church has a special position, since together with the younger Lüneburg St. Nicholas' Church it is the only basilica in the Gothic brick hall churches.
