Sundsvall West Station is the smaller of the city's two railway stations. Built in 1885, the station remained in operation until 1966. City architect Hans Schlyter prevented its planned demolition, and the building has since been used for various purposes. Currently, it houses, among other things, a café. At Sundsvall Västra station, the Mittbanan line runs west to Trondheim, and the Ådalsbanan line runs north to Sollefteå. The third line at this railway hub, the Ostkustbanan, runs south from the main station to Stockholm. A new master plan proposes a new location for the western station: Mittuniversitetet, approximately 500 meters to the west, is intended to replace the old station.
