The Grötzinger sandstone gave his old-fashioned appearance to Alt-Grötzingen with its houses made of native sandstone with the hewn, partially ornamented torches, archways, bridges and weirs.

The sandstone was also used for the reconstruction of the Karlsburg Durlach and during the reestablishment of Karlsruhe. The raft ditch in Grötzingen tells about it.

The so-called “Nidda Arch” from the 17th century is a monument in Karlsruhe-Grötzingen and is named after the (court) butcher Johann Nikolaus (von) Nidda (1672–1722).
It is the archway of the former “Zur Kanne” inn in Grötzingen; it served there as a house and courtyard portal.
The Torborgen was created in 1632 by the stonemason Christoph "Stoffel" Zoller († 1640) for the "Kannenwirt" Knobloch in Grötzingen.
After the building was destroyed in an air raid on April 24, 1944 during the Second World War, the Renaissance archway was recovered from the ruins of the building in 1952 and rebuilt in 1968.
The arch is set up on a wall in the parking lot at Niddaplatz in Karlsruhe-Grötzingen; an inscription on the wall recalls the history of the Kanne inn and the Niddabogen.
