Built in 1915 for the chairman of the zemstvo council, Fyodor Ksenofontovich Prishletsov, the house later passed to the Gorokhovets mayor. Before the revolution, the building housed a short-lived pharmacy. The house witnessed the revolutionary events in Gorokhovets. In 1919, the district-city branch of the RCP(b) was housed here. The house's architecture reflected the growing interest in Russian folk art motifs in architecture in the late 19th and early 20th centuries—the so-called "neo-Russian style." This style found a unique expression in local carpentry. This wooden one-story mansion with a square tower and a voluminous domed mezzanine still attracts attention today due to its uniqueness. Of particular interest are the triangular dormer windows, which rise like steps to the roof ridge. The street entrance is framed by a porch with a steep gable roof covered in patterned iron "scales" resembling tiles and crowned with a carved spire. The domed, hipped tower, rising on the same axis as the porch, is designed in the same style, also featuring "scales" and a spire. The main façade is more heavily decorated than the side façades facing the courtyard and garden. Local yakushi decorated the varied window shapes with stunning window frames featuring lavishly carved visors. The carvings include large rosettes of flowers and leaves, bunches of grapes, and, especially striking, fairy-tale lions and mermaids (beregini), who were meant to protect the house from enemies. Today, the Prishletsov mansion is often called the "house with mermaids."
