A church existed in this churchyard as early as the early 17th century, as mentioned in the Gorokhovets district census books of 1628. The current stone Church of St. Michael the Archangel was built to replace the wooden one in 1737, funded by the Gorokhovets merchant I.I. Kholkin.
Since 1869, the church's primary benefactor has been Fyodor Mikhailovich Yakovlev, a wealthy peasant. Thanks to him, in 1875 the church was significantly expanded toward the west and lavishly decorated inside. However, the church was too small and cramped to accommodate the entire parish, so in 1897, F.M. Yakovlev decided to build a new church dedicated to the Holy Life-Giving Trinity.
The new red brick church, built in the eclectic style, was completed in 1899. A distinctive feature of this style is the replacement of stucco decoration with elements of exposed brick. Note the richly decorated main volume of the monastery—a two-story quadrangle crowned with five onion-domed domes, with side extensions and an apse on the eastern side. Literally every square meter of its facades, including the three-pronged kokoshnik crowns, is strewn with various decorative patterns, highlighted in white for contrast, characteristic of the Russian architectural style—intricate archivolts, relief friezes, and window frames with fan-shaped locks.
