The High Fens consist of fens, peat bogs, heathlands, and forest edges. The area is home to a rich biodiversity: from typical raised bog species such as cotton grass, marsh violets, and sundews to numerous birds, amphibians, and insects. The peaty soils and moist microclimates create a special ecosystem essential for the conservation of this flora and fauna.
