The high tower of the St. Laurentius Church, unmistakably directly on the market square, shapes the image of the city of Tönning an der Eider. This impressive church building has existed since 1180 and, with its baroque interior, is a special gem among the numerous churches in Eiderstedt. A lively church music work is one of the focal points in the community. This includes regular performances of the Cantorei and the Propst Cantata Choir as well as elaborate productions of Singspiele or musicals by the two children's choirs.
