The Wurzbacher Stauweiher, is the last still intact rafting pond in the area of Warmensteinach. Here the so-called Schwemmflößerei was operated. This means that wood was thrown into rivers and then the nearby dams were opened for transport.

Hiking

The Wurzbachweiher pond is always a nice place to include on a hike. There's a lovely route from Sophienthal, starting at the hiking car park. Unfortunately, forestry is also making inroads on this route, which is slowly turning the route into a forest highway. It's still very beautiful, though. There's a nice climb at the end up to the Wurzbachweiher pond.
