The Volksgarten was a gift from the Mönchengladbach entrepreneur Peter Krall to his hometown. The park merges into the neighboring forest area, the Bungtwald, and has been protected since 1962.

<< Volksgarten (Mönchengladbach) >>
Mönchengladbach-Volksgarten was a district of Mönchengladbach. The area now belongs to the Mönchengladbach Ost district. The Volksgarten district included the districts of Lürrip, Hardterbroich-Pesch and Bungt.
The name comes from the Volksgarten in the Bungt district, a local recreation area with a pond, outdoor pool and old trees through which the Bungtbach flows. This park is a gift from Peter Krall, who bequeathed his private property to the citizens of Mönchengladbach at the end of the 19th century.
Until 2018, the park's pond could be used with rented rowing or pedal boats. A large playground near the pond is an attraction for young families. The park is home to a concert shell.

The following exciting information about the swan pond in the Volksgarten comes from Komootler Bernd Wende -

I would therefore like to pass on this history of the pond... Bernd, thank you very much for this post! 😃👍
"The Schwanenweiher was a so-called preheater. And it is located right next to the Volksbad Volksgarten, which is a listed building. Previously in the 1960s, instead of grass, there was sand everywhere in the Volksbad. This meant that the water quickly became very dirty and had to be replaced. Even back then, just ice-cold water would have been unreasonable. The warming up took place in this pond. The warmed water was then let into the cleaned pools. Today the pond is no longer used and is part of the Volksgarten/Bungt nature reserve."
