Kibi no Makibi Park, located in Mabicho, Kurashiki City, Okayama Prefecture, was developed to commemorate the achievements of Kibi no Makibi, a politician and scholar from the Nara period.
In 2007, it was selected as one of Japan's Top 100 Historical Parks (Japan Park and Green Space Association). A large statue of Makibi stands in front of the plaza, watching over the town of Yakage. There is also a monument marking the "Birthplace of Go," commemorating the fact that Makibi first introduced the game of Go from China.
The park's main features are as follows:
Kibi no Makibi Bronze Statue: The bronze statue of Kibi stands on a two-tiered platform modeled after the Chinese "Temple of Heaven," a place where prayers for bountiful harvests were made.
Historical Significance: Located in what is believed to be Kibi no Makibi's birthplace (there are various theories), it is known as a place to honor people who contributed to Japanese history.
Symbol of Recovery: The park is also positioned as a symbol of the recovery from the 2018 Western Japan heavy rains.
By visiting the park, you can experience Japanese history and culture and learn about the achievements of Kibi no Makibi.
