Documents submitted to the Niwase Domain office in December 1870 state, "During the Tensho era, the Mori clan protected and rebuilt Sarugake Castle when the Chugoku region was established. It later became an abandoned shrine, but the previous lord, Itakura Ecchu-no-kami, ordered the construction of new shrines for worship." It also states that regarding the worship shrine, offering hall, front section, and sub-shrine, "The above are located on a high, steep mountain above the main shrine, making it difficult for people of all ages to visit, so during the Bunsei era, the lord ordered the construction of these at the foot of the mountain."
It was ranked as a village shrine in 1909.
