Roman goddess of agriculture (particularly grain) and motherly love.
Statue of a woman holding an ear of wheat and an apple on a natural stone pedestal, with the coat of arms of the Wageningen Student Association Ceres on the front.
The statue was erected by the Goes citizens, the "Comité Huldeblijk Z.L.M." (Committee of Honor to Z.L.M.), as a tribute to the establishment of the Zeeuwse Landbouw Maatschappij (Zeeland Agricultural Company) in Goes and all the other agricultural services that made Goes an agricultural center. The plaster model of the statue was unveiled on June 17, 1954, by Ir. M.A. Geuze, general chairman of the Z.L.M. This plaster statue can be seen on the old postcard below.

In March 1955, a reunion of the Zeeland agricultural engineers was held in Goes. The Wageningen Student Corps senate was received by the mayor and aldermen of Goes on that occasion, and the mayor received a copy of the 47th almanac from them. The front cover always features an image of Ceres, and an image of the Goes statue had been used for this almanac. In gratitude, the mayor promised that the corps' coat of arms would eventually be placed on the pedestal of the final statue.

The final bronze statue was installed in October 1955. The Wageningen student coat of arms was later added to the pedestal.
