Hiking

The Alserbos is a 65-hectare nature reserve in Sint-Pieters-Voeren, with a distinctly different topography: from 160 to 240 meters in elevation. The western slope consists of an oak-birch forest, supplemented higher up with species such as oak, lime, ash, wild cherry, and beech. The area is unique because heather, broom, and other calcareous species still occur here—rare in the Voer region.

Hiking

Centuries-old deciduous trees adorn the slopes in this forest complex. The plateau, on the other hand, was deforested in the 1960s for agriculture. Because soil cultivation proved difficult on the stony silex soil, the Flemish Region purchased the land and reforested it. Part is planted with various native deciduous species, another part is spontaneously overgrown with birch as a characteristic pioneer species.
