The Voer is a tributary of the Meuse that flows through the northeast of Belgium and the extreme south of Dutch Limburg (near Mesch and Eijsden). Both the Voer region, the municipality of Voeren and the towns of 's-Gravenvoeren, Sint-Martens-Voeren and Sint-Pieters-Voeren located therein owe their names to this brook. The source of the river is located at the Commandery of Sint-Pieters-Voeren. The source of the Voer provides water all year round that meets the requirements for trout. On the route of about 400 meters between the source and the place where the water leaves the nursery, the temperature changes by a maximum of one degree. Like the other sources in the Voer region, the source of Sint-Pieters-Voeren rises in places where water seeps through calcareous rock (marl) until it collides with an impermeable layer of clay. The whole village used to come here to get drinking water. With a flow rate of about 4,000 liters per minute, this could not have been a problem. The source is actually a collection point where the supply of different water veins is brought together. The building from 1666 is closed with a wrought iron gate with the coats of arms of several noble members of the German Order of Knights, more specifically of the Autringen, Bocholtz and Rolshausen families.
