FOREST RESERVE ‘ALSERBOS’
Since July 1st, 1998 the ‘Alserbos’ has been opened for walkers / hikers. This natural landscape is the property of the Flemish Community, which has it for the o.e. Purpose completely set up. The whole area is fenced and the passages are only for the passive recreation seeker (walkers / hikers). Mountain biking is possible - but only on the middle path for the purpose of traversing. Riders and motor vehicles are not allowed in the reserve. The ‘Alserbos’ covers an area of 65 hectares, from north to south, with a height of 160 m to 240 m above sea level. The western slope is very steep and rises below from a deep ravine that follows a dry depression or ‘delle ’; an environment in which, among other things, the badger feels at home and can have an ideal living and feeding area. The aim of the new administration is to restore the western steep slope to its original appearance. In the meantime a new oak-birch forest has been planted and further up a variety of oak, linden, ash, bird cherry and beech. On the plateau itself, a nature reserve has been demarcated, in which the forest can take place in a spontaneous way.

Incidentally, it is one of the few places in the Voer region where heather, gorse, pill-sedge and curly Schmiele feel particularly at home.
