On the square (námestí Svobody) in the city center, a strange grave stone is embedded in the ground. At this point, the skeleton of the oldest beer drinker of Saaz was found on 1 April 2001 in a grave. In addition to the skeleton whose deformation points to a tummy of the living, one has found a half-liter jug with traces of a hops drink and a clay tablet with seven strokes, as would be done today on beer mats. This symbol helped the hop and beer temple to its logo and was the city worth a plaque. The name was given to the original Saazer Lojza (Alois) Lupulín, based on the Latin name for beer hops (Humulus lupulus) and declared him the representative of the genus Homo Lupulus ("hop man").
