Originally, here was a mighty upstream fortification, where the
Ways converged from the west. Its name was given by the gate of the
no longer existing minority monastery. As a counterpart to the
Pragertor, also called Upper Gate, it was also called Lower Gate. The
Today's facade is a replica from the years 1899-1906.
