Herrnburg Dunes

However, to speak of a trail on this wide sandy path is slightly euphemistic. I would prefer the narrower paths around Teufelsmoor or the paths directly over the dune (or what's left of it).

Beautiful trail past the Teufelsmoor. In Lübeck, north of the Wakenitz, there are inland dunes that were blown up after the end of the Vistula glaciation. Dry grassland has developed here, as well as around the Teufelsmoor to the north.
Since the areas are no longer grazed, they are in danger of becoming overgrown with bushes and have to be cleared and mown for maintenance. The dry grasslands are the habitat of a species-rich flora and fauna that is adapted to the site conditions. For example, people settle here B. Silver grass, carnation, sand bells and sand strawflower.
The sandy soil allows sand bees to build a nest. The dry grassland communities are also the habitat of various butterflies and grasshoppers. For example, fire butterflies and checkerboards are native here.
The Teufelsmoor was formed in a moist depression. It is characterized by rubble forest with peat moss. This is where, among other things, settles: the swamp calla. The moor is the habitat of the grass snake.

Great way through the heathland
