Impressively preserved foundations of the former monastery. On the small turret you can also get a good overview of the top.

Beautiful monastery ruins, two towers are accessible, in addition to the beautiful view of the Rhine plain, you can get an overview of the ruins. You can explore everything nicely and the boards inform exactly where which rooms were.

Michaelskloster on the Heiligenberg in Heidelberg was founded as a branch monastery of the Lorsch monastery in the 9th century on the site of an old cult site. Remains of foundations have been preserved from the site, which was abandoned in the 16th century.

At the rear summit of the Heiligenberg (Heidelberg), where a Celtic and Roman place of worship had previously been, around 600 a permanent settlement was established. Around 870, the abbot of Lorsch founded a church dedicated to St. Michael, the later Michaelskloster. The monastery received rich estates in the area and was combined in the 13th century with the neighboring monastery of St. Stephen to a Premonstratensian provost. In 1537 the Michaelskloster was abandoned, the ruin served as a quarry.

One of many beautiful ruins in the area. Not to mention the Thingstätte nearby.

A little above the Thingstätte are the ruins of the St. Michael monastery.
The foundation walls have been preserved and there are some information boards on the floor plan in the area.

Nice surprise after the ascent on the Philosophenweg.
Remnants of the monastery and clearly visible grounds.
A little below, a beautiful beer garden invites you to linger.

Large, spacious facility. The size of the former monastery can be easily guessed from the almost completely preserved foundation walls. The complex is completely fenced and only accessible via a gate on the south side. Open only during the day!
