According to the legend of "The Pied Piper of Hamelin," some Transylvanians are descended from children from Hamelin, whom a colorfully dressed Pied Piper kidnapped from the Lower Saxon town on June 26, 1284, in revenge. According to legend, the 130 abducted children were led by the Pied Piper into a cave and resurrected in Transylvania. The "Parcul Pied Piper of Hamelin" at St. Catherine's Gate commemorates this legendary event. Here, you can also see beautiful wooden sculptures of Carpathian animals. They were created by sculptor student Florea Adrían Florin in 2019.
