Fernstein Castle

South of the Fern Pass there is a fairytale castle in a beautiful location. Here you can stay overnight and stop off. The turquoise Fernsteinsee right next door is particularly beautiful.

A castle and a lake simply belong together, but here the ensemble is also paired with a colorful lake in a wonderful mountain landscape. Sorry, you just have to rave and take photos here.

The castle is picturesquely situated on the route to Innsbruck (about 32 km from Reutte) just after the Fern Pass. First mentioned in 1519, it accommodated emperors and kings who were traveling on this once important connection between Allgäu and Tyrol. The private lakes Fernsteinsee and Sameranger See next to the castle are an insider tip for divers because of their clarity and unique flora.
