This trail is almost legendary. He is the first driving challenge on the Albrecht Route and the Via Claudia Augusta. Over the years, the iron-studded wagon wheels of the old Römerkarren have worked their way deep into the stony path, and even today the traces of bygone times are visible. But the Fernsteinsee and the castle Fernstein are a feast for the eyes and a pit stop is recommended.

This is part of Via Claudia Augusta. The best way to start this part in Biberwir, if you turn just before the Weissensee in the Marienberger Mure.
We wanted to drive him last year at Pentecost on our tour in the Puster Valley and I had planned the extra night in Biberwier. Unfortunately it rained until 15 minutes before departure in the morning and then the way through the forest with the tandem was too dangerous for me. Alternative was the Fernpassstraße and because it was quite early in the morning, the traffic was not so bad. And the departure was great! However, the fingers of my Sozia were so clammy, that we had to take a coffee at the Rasthof am Fernsteinsee. But we also want to drive this route again.

Scenic trail that follows the old paths of the Via Claudia Augusta to come from Biberwier to Gurgltal he is used by many cyclists on a Transalp route
The Fernpass is the second alpine pass on the old Reschen route built by the Romans. The Romans built in the years 46/47 a first street, which existed until the Middle Ages. They were once named after their builder Emperor Claudius, Via Claudia Augusta.
This transition is not necessarily suitable for wheels with trailer.
