Starzlach Gorge: The Gorge between Burgberg and Sonthofen

A natural wonder at the foot of the Grünten

The natural creator of the Starzlach Gorge is the Starzlach River, which rises between Grünten and the Wertacher Hörnle at an altitude of 1,070 m and is fed by numerous rivulets. Water cascades down the gorge from several waterfalls.

For millennia, the Starzlach River has sought its way over the cliffs, forcing its way through kettle-shaped watermills into the gorge. Nummulites can also be found in the fossil-bearing rocks of the rock faces.

The Starzlach Gorge is a starting point for hikes, canyoning, and many other beautiful nature experiences.
