The original church was built in the 11th century as a hall church using Tournai stone.
• In the 12th century, it was expanded to the west.
• Around the end of the 13th century, a new choir made of Balegem stone was added.
• In 1593, the church was even used as a fortress, after which restoration work was carried out.
• In 1656, a sacristy was added.
• A major restoration took place in 1892-1893, during which the Leuven architect Joseph François Piscador designed a neo-Gothic west façade.
