A trullo is always round. If the cottage is square, it's not a trullo. There are very nice specimens of these special vineyard cottages in both Rheinhessen and the Palatinate! The trulli once protected vineyard workers and archers from rain, thunderstorms and sun. Here was the place of rest, where the midday meal brought along was eaten.
