The Rehwiesengraben is a perfect place for my little town dog. Here she can sniff, run and let off steam. For dog owners as a side trip from the Schlachtensee definitely recommended!

The Rehwiese, formerly also called Kuhfenn or Franzosenwiese, is a relatively narrow lowland in the Berlin district of Nikolassee in the Steglitz-Zehlendorf district, just under 1½ kilometers long. It stretches from the Spanische Allee to the Nikolassee. Before the Nikolassee colony was established in 1901, the deer that gave the area its name often grazed in the valley-shaped Rehwiese. The once swampy depression connects the Nikolassee with the Schlachtensee as part of the Grunewald lake chain and is now largely drained. The character of the Grunewald lake chain as a glacial interglacial valley can be clearly seen in the Rehwiesensenke. Villas from the turn of the 20th century stretch along the slopes on both sides. Swampy strips can still be found at the exit to the Nikolassee, which with its swampy surroundings provides the necessary wet ground for the remains of valuable alluvial forests. The Rehwiese and the Nikolassee have been designated as a landscape conservation area with an area of 25.6 hectares since 1960. The regulation exempts the Berlin Waterworks' facilities "for the extraction, transport and enrichment of groundwater", which pump three million cubic metres of water annually from twelve wells in the Rehwiese; between 1983 and 1992, this figure was around nine million cubic metres annually. Re-waterlogged areas are to be preserved and the uncontrolled growth of trees is to be pushed back. In autumn, blackberry lovers get their money's worth in the Rehwiese.
