"The railway from Schwelm to Witten was not built by the Reichsbahn for the direct purpose of transporting coal. Rather, it was to be part of a new connection between Dortmund and Cologne Neuwuelfingsburg colliery was built between 1911 and 1934.
Ultimately, the railway never achieved the importance originally expected. So it was abandoned after just under 50 years. The railway line was closed in 1980."
