The Koppelpoort is part of the old defense wall of Amersfoort city. It's at the moment the only and last one still to cross water. There used to be loads of these in old Dutch cities, but over time they've all disappeared. Not this one though. Special and quite beautiful.

The Koppelpoort is a unique combination of a land gate and a water gate, the only one in the Netherlands. This dates from ca 1425 and is part of the second wall of the city.

In about 30 minutes you will discover all the secrets during a complete tour of and on the gate: a surprising experience. This is only possible in the company of a guide from Guild Amersfoort. You can find out for yourself what a ringleader is. And who has run in one of the treadmills, receives the Raddraaierscertificaat (German: Rädelsführerzertifikat). Also for children very exciting and interesting.

For a visit to the Koppelpoort a reservation is required. There is no minimum number of visitors per tour. At least the fare for five adults will be charged.

In 2016, thanks to a new lighting design, the Koppelpoort has received a beautiful three-dimensional look. The architectural details of this particular monument are now much more beautifully illuminated.
