Vilhelm Lassen was editor of the left-wing newspaper Aalborg and was elected to parliament in 1901. From 1905 until his death in 1908, he served as Minister of Finance in the Christensen government and was highly esteemed. After his early death, a beautiful Art Nouveau monument was erected in his honor, which the Prime Minister personally unveiled. The politician's bronze bust stands on a high stone pedestal; a mourning female figure with an extinguished torch stretches out her arm to inscribe his biographical details.
