Hard to comprehend today, but through this beautiful nature reserve once led a railway line (Altenhundem-Birkelbach). Remains of the first bridge pillar of the impressive viaduct that led the railway over the Schwarzbach can be seen here. The viaduct, and other bridges of the route, was blown up in the last days of the war. The railway operation was not included.
