The Valznerweiher is a four-hectare pond in eastern Nuremberg on the edge of the Lorenzer Reichswald in the Zerzabelshof district.

It was originally no more than a small pond in a chain of similar bodies of water. Two bodies of water separated by a bridge can still be seen today. The western and actually nameless pond is colloquially called the "small Valznerweiher".[1] The pond is fed by the Fischbach, the Goldbach is fed by the Valznerweiher via its outflow.

The pond was named after Herdegen Valzner, a banker from Prague. The spelling of the name changed over time, around 1823 it was called "Vällzner Weyher", 1869 "Falznerweiher". Valzner acquired the pond for the water supply of the Gleißhammer, his iron hammer at today's Zeltnerweiher. The Valznerweiher came into the possession of the patrician Nützel family as a hereditary fief.

Towards the end of the 18th century there was a household (1 estate) in Valznerweiher. The high court was exercised by the imperial city of Nuremberg, which was disputed by the Brandenburg-Ansbach Vogtamt Schönberg. The manorial ruler was held by the Nuremberg owner von Fürer.[2]

As part of the municipal edict, Valznerweiher was assigned to the Mögeldorf tax district formed in 1808. It also belonged to the rural community Mögeldorf founded in the same year.[3] Between 1818 and 1840, Valznerweiher was relocated to the newly formed rural community of Zerzabelshof. On November 1, 1923, Valznerweiher was incorporated into the city of Nuremberg.

Today, the Forsthof borders on the south-eastern edge of the Valznerweiher, and the Zerzabelshofer forest on the north-eastern edge. There used to be a herd of birds on the island in the Valznerweiher.

In summer, with a beautiful terrace right by the pond, you can sit here wonderfully.
