On beautiful paths it goes here directly along the banks of the Pegnitz, past old buildings and the nature reserve Pegnitztal east.

The Pegnitz is a river in Franconia, which after an almost 113 km long, southwestern run in Fürth merges with the left Rednitz to Regnitz. On the flow path with its longer and more water-rich upper course Fichtenohe it is over 127 km long.

The river name Pegnitz goes back to the name “Paginza” from 889 and is seen as a derivative with a -nt suffix to Indo-European bhog- = flowing water. In 1119 when the city of Pegnitz was first mentioned, it can be found as "Begenze" and in 1196 as "Begnitz" before the current name was mentioned in 1329. In Franconia it is often called "Bengertz".
