The border wall, similar to the Berlin Wall, ran right through the village, dividing it into a West German (Bavarian) and an East German (Thuringian) section. This wall was about 700 meters long and 3.3 meters high and was built by the GDR.

A border running right through a small village. The construction of the 700-meter-long, 3.30-meter-high concrete barrier wall. Not only was the path blocked, but also visual contact between East and West was to be prevented by a wall of concrete and wooden elements with steel deflectors.
