"The Bremer Teich, originally called Hirschteich and for a while since 1968 Bremer Dammteich, in the Harz Mountains is a reservoir built in 1796 and about 3.7 hectares in size in the wooded southern foothills of the district of Gernrode, which belongs to the city of Quedlinburg, in the Harz district in Saxony-Anhalt. It is used for fishing, flood protection and local recreation and is registered in the local monument register. The Bremer Teich was built in 1796, according to other sources as early as 1730, and is said to have been intended for catching deer, which is where its original name, Hirschteich, comes from. It owes its current name to the engineer Bremer, who constructed the dam. The pond was important for the water management of the nearby mining industry and is considered a testament to the mining history of the eastern Harz.An earth dam with core and outer skin sealing serves as the dam. It is 13.1 m high above the foundation base, at its crown 112 m long and 3 m wide. In 1968, according to other sources as early as 1966, this was reinforced by embankment and the body of water was called Bremer Dammteich for a while. A youth hostel, camping sites and a restaurant were built, which are still located today at the pond, which is used as a natural swimming pool, so that it and its surroundings serve as a local recreation area. Further renovations were carried out in 2010/2011. The pond has an area of 3.7 hectares, its water surface is 423.2 m above sea level. The total storage capacity is 0.129 million m³ and the storage capacity 0.1 million m³. The size of the catchment area is 1.3 km². Source: Wiki
