The castle's origins are not entirely clear. Count Otto the Rich probably built it around 1100. It was destroyed as early as 1140, but rebuilt by Albert the Bear starting in 1146. We love the tranquility and the view of the Selke Valley from up here. The grounds of Anhalt Castle are open to the public at all times.
