The Köthener Hütte is by far the most beautiful mountain hut in the Harz Mountains. Lovingly designed as a small church and with a fine view. The Selketal is also worth a hike, as it is the most natural valley in the whole of the Harz Mountains and is visited less often than, for example, the Bodetal. However, you also have to be able to suffer a bit, for example when you hike through Mägdesprung. The decay of the small village is sad to see.

The Köthener Hut towers above the Selketal, near the Alexisbad. According to my taste, it is one of the most beautiful huts in the Harzer Wanderadel (HWN) collection. Lovingly designed with a small bell tower, it resembles a tiny chapel.

The Köthener hut, also called chapel, is a refuge. The Köthener hut was erected in 1897 as a white-painted wooden hut by traveling friends of the Harzclub branch association Köthen [3]. Its small bell tower makes it look like a small church, so it is also called a chapel; But she also got this nickname in memory of the dilapidated wooden shack, which previously stood in the same place. Some hikers ring the bell to signal their arrival there. The hut is being looked after by the Harzklub branch association Harzgerode e. V., who takes care of the receipt.
