Dissolved minerals from the pit water from the mining of the Robert Müser colliery explain the occurrence of this curious water coloration in the northern part of the Harpen ponds. So the sulfur still comes into play and lets out bad smells from time to time, but you shouldn't let that deter you, because the beautiful surroundings clearly predominate.
