In 1988, the Rotenburg City Council decided to commemorate the victims of National Socialism with a memorial.
Dr. Matthias Bantz, a Rotenburg physician and sculptor, created this sculpture.
A tortured person cries out in helplessness.
The memorial was placed next to the town hall at the beginning of the pedestrian zone and was unveiled on November 9, 1989.
The inscription on the base reads: "Wanting to forget prolongs exile, and the secret of redemption is remembrance."
