The memorial sculpture for the marshalling yard was built in 1988 by Professor David D. Lauer.

The steel sculpture is the result of an art-on-construction competition and shows upward-shortening tracks, reminiscent of the marshalling yard in Karlsruhe.

The monumental, symbolic sculpture pays tribute to the marshalling yard with shapes that point towards the sky and are reminiscent of rails and switches. The two parts of the sculpture are placed in such a way that an open space in the form of a tapering triangle is created. The artist, who died in 2014, taught at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Karlsruhe. His work moves in the field of tension between abstracted figures and geometric experimental arrangements.
