The Hengstey run-of-river power plant was built between 1927 and 1929. In addition to generating energy, it serves to regulate the river, improve the self-purification of the Ruhr and, last but not least, create a high level of recreational value through the dammed Hengsteysee.
The three turbines in the power plant generate around 11 million kWh per year, enough for around 3,000 households.
The Hengstey run-of-river power plant is part of the Industrial Culture Route.

Here at the western end of the Hengsteysee the power plant dams up the Ruhr to the Hengsteysee. From here you can see the Koepchenwerk on the north shore well. If you like a longer break, you can stop in the restaurants or have a rustic picnic.
