On this spot once stood the orthodox church of Shën Gjergji, built in 1905 and demolished in 1971 during the communist era to make way for the city library. The line of the original facade was re-inscribed in the pavement in 2014, so that the memory of the church and the layered history of Korçë remains visible in the urban plan.
